Linking Formula is one of the classic prescriptions of Chinese medicine, originated from “Renewal of Famous Physicians' Class Cases - Heart and Stomach Pain Gate” written by Wei Yuhuan, a famous physician in the Qing Dynasty, and then included in “Liuzhou Medical Dialectics” and other medical books and passed on to the present day, which has become a famous formula for nourishing yin and detoxifying the liver, commonly used in the clinical practice of traditional Chinese medicine. This formula is made up of six herbs, namely, Northern Radix Panax Ginseng, Ophiopogon, Radix Angelicae Sinensis, Radix Rehmanniae Praeparata, Fructus Lycii, and Neem Ziziphi, each of which carries a deep insight into the natural world of traditional Chinese medicine and a unique understanding of the pathological mechanisms of the human body.

Linking Formula uses Radix Rehmanniae Praeparata as the principal medicine to nourish yin and nourish blood, tonifying the liver and kidneys with its sweet and cold nature, and treating the yin deficiency of the liver and kidneys; it also uses Radix Panax Quinquefolium Lobatae, Rhizoma Ophiopogonis Macrocephalae, Radix Angelicae Sinensis and Fructus Lycii Ziziphi as the ministers' medicines, of which Radix Panax Quinquefolium Lobatae and Rhizoma Ophiopogonis Macrocephalae nourish yin and generate fluids to clear heat and moisten lungs, Fructus Lycii Ziziphi nourishes liver and kidneys to benefit the vitality of essence and brighten eyes. Liver wood is moist; more with a small amount of neem as a supporting, its taste bitter cold, can dredge the liver and drain heat, regulate qi pain, so that the liver wood, qi smooth, and not due to nourish the yin and congestion of the qi. The combination of all the medicines, the total performance of nourishing yin and dredging the liver, nourishing blood to soften the liver, regulating qi to stop pain, so that the liver body can be nourished and yin and blood gradually restored, liver qi can be spared to remove all the pain, so as to achieve both the symptoms and the root cause of the problem.
